Django, PostgreSQL, WebSockets, Railway — on purpose.
The ape game's stack is Django + DRF + PostgreSQL + JS + WebSockets on Railway. Deliberately boring. When the game is absurd, infrastructure should be the predictable part. Indie games die when devs pick exciting stacks and spend six months fighting them instead of shipping gameplay. Nobody quit a game because the ORM was boring — they quit because netcode never worked and the dev burned out at 2am. Spend the novelty budget once, on what the player sees. Where's yours going: product or plumbing?

The planned stack for the ape game is Django + Django REST Framework + PostgreSQL + JavaScript + WebSockets, deployed on Railway. I can feel the excitement draining from the room, and that's the point. When the game is absurd, the infrastructure should be the most predictable part of the project. I've watched indie games die because the developer chose an exciting stack and spent six months fighting it instead of shipping gameplay. Nobody ever quit a game because the ORM was boring. They quit because the netcode never worked and the dev burned out at 2am. Boring stack, silly game. The novelty budget gets spent exactly once — on the thing the player sees. Where are you spending your novelty budget: on the product, or on the plumbing?
